Tribal Collection
Hand-Hammered 22K and Sterling Silver
The Tribal Collection was inspired by my fascination with my ancestors, the Germanic & Celtic tribesmen of the late Roman and early Medieval periods. Although called Barbarians by the Romans, the Germanic & Celtic tribes actually produced great poets, heroes, metalsmiths and jewelers.
During the Roman period gold was used straight from the ore, or mixed with silver to form electrum. The best quality gold they could produce was 22K. Only modern methods increase the purity to 24K. I like the rich warm color and comforting heft of 22K gold. The hammered finish is an early form of metal texturing and gives these designs a primitive, earthy look.
Tribal jewelry comes with a card describing the historical significance of the symbol and the influences behind its creation.
